Unit 6 Blog Discussion

Unit 6 Blog Discussion
1)     Practice the universal Loving-Kindness (meditation) exercise p. 93
2)     Complete the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 ( p115)
3)     Describe the exercise and assessment process. What did you discover about yourself? What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? Why? What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area?
As I completed the Loving-Kindness meditation, I found that chanting the “May all individuals gain freedom from suffering.
May all individuals find sustained health, happiness and wholeness.
May I assist in all individuals in gaining freedom from suffering.
May I assist all individuals in finding health, happiness and wholeness” (Dacher, 2006). This soothes me and calmed me into a relaxed state of mind. I wish I had this to practice with when (or before) I was in hospital. However, this now has helped me focus more clearly and calmly on my inner self in learning that meditation can be beneficial to my happiness and wellbeing and help me along my path to a fully integral health. The “tools of assessments helped with focusing on what area that has distressed my life and instead of reacting negatively I can according to Dacher (2006) observe “which aspects in my life that causes me distress and where is my greatest possibility in development and growth’ (Dacher, 2006), thereby recognizing the areas I need to focus on( which I think ‘worldly” area) and change what I can rather than let is take over me and distress me. By utilizing all six principles in your life can help you on your way to a more wholesomeness, happiness and healthier you. I am already feeling and seeing the positive effects this has taken on me and will be further enriched because if it.  In addition all this, I find that if I took my hearing-aids out ( I do this often when I need to shut out noise and distractions, does well for me when I have to do speeches...lol) that I can focus on meditation and my assessments more clearly because I can feel my breathing,, be relaxed and have a much calmer mind to observe my areas that need attention. 1. Hello there,
This would have been a great exercise for you to practice in the hospital. I think that it really does calm the mind and bring out our positive aspects. The phases that you chant are very soothing. I relly have not said them to myself until I read your post, but I have to agree with you that it does help.
    Good luck with everything.

  2. Hi Kathy. I am glad you are seeing all the benefits of the exercises we are learning in this course. I am beginning to as well. I also wish you had these tools at your disposal when you were in the hospital. But, it sounds like you have a good plan moving forward and are able to utilize Dacher’s principles and tools such as the chants. I will have to practice those more often myself. I also agree it is important to focus on areas that have caused us distress and find a way of recognizing them and working on them rather than reacting negatively to them out of habit perhaps. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you on your continued journey!

  3. LOL!!! at taking out the hearing aids. That is true that we must focus on the things that we can change and accept those things that we can not. And the things that I can not I leave that up to a higher power. I try not to let the stress of the world consume me and make me behave in a negative way. Meditation is a great way to clear your thoughts and escape for a little while.

  4. Hello,

I really enjoyed doing the exercises and assessment this week. I learned a bit about myself. I realize how important it is to stop and take an assessment of our personal developmentatl growth in these areas of our life.
